|The Clock of the Long Now: Time Travel in Verse has the overriding theme of time; both the chronos and kairos of time; as the Greeks imagined time had two faces -- chronos, quantitative time; and kairos, qualitative time. The poetic form chosen for each of the poems is the sonnet. Each of the four |Clock of the Long Now| sonnets is used as a divider between sections, referencing an actual clock that is being built in Nevada by the Long Now Foundation, and aimed to help people envision a long-range view of time. The first section of The Clock of the Long Now addresses my personal family history. The second section focuses on the Book of Ecclesiastes. The third section is a heroic crown of sonnets about Jupiter Hammon, an eighteenth century poet. The final sonnet redouble time travel between my time at Joseph Lloyd Manor, Jupiter Hammon's time, and the time Anne Morrow Lindbergh lived there .|--Leaf iii.
